It’s a long time since I last
posted and now, during a power cut (caused by Hurricane Sandy) I feel compelled
to write a few things:
Not in any particular order:
- · I am appalled by the vitriol coming out of the extreme right wing political machine, and GOP advertisements. Many statements and or implications are downright lies
- · I am completely against “Citizens United” the Supreme court has done this country a great dis-service and set the country back years. Companies are not People. The pressure that corporations and the wealthy put on politicians is giving them control over ”the People”
- · I am increasingly of the opinion that Capitalism is the root of all the troubles in the USA and the World. CEO’s cannot be blamed for sending jobs out of the country, to China, if that is what creates more profit for their shareholders. That is what CEO’s are employed to do. Until CEO’s are measured by something other than just profit (say job creation for instance) nothing will change
- · People are hypocrites: we all complain about jobs going to China because it is cheaper to make stuff there, and then we all go shop at Walmart because we want to buy at the cheapest price point
- · I absolutely believe that everyone should have Health Care. It should be everyone’s right
- · I believe that the tax system should make everyone pay their fair share particularly, and especially the wealthy
- · I think the US election process of taking two years to plan and have an election is unnecessary, an anachronism, debilitating, ensures less than optimum government, and because of how these elections are now implemented, separates the population and creates dis-harmony
o
I believe the media aggravates the situation by
the incessant analysis by pundits of every political event.
o
Why do they have to tell us what the President
is going to tell us in a speech? Why
can’t we hear it firsthand directly for him?
o
Why do they have to micro analyze what has been
said , why can’t we make up our own minds
- · I think the President should serve a single term for six years. That means we’d have 5 years of government from that President. Right now we have a four year term that gives us only one year of optimum government: one year to get going followed by one year of optimum government followed by two years of trying to get re-elected which provides for less that 100 percent government
o
I think there should be a review of how many
times an individual can get re-elected in all walks of government
- · I think that whatever Congress decides for the people should apply to them too – no exceptions. They should have the same, Health Scheme, the same Pension etc etc
- · It is inevitable that there will be fewer jobs available: it now takes 18 people to do the jobs of 80 in the auto industry. If employers insist on using robots then they will not need as many employees. How many robots exist now in the manufacturing process?
- · How many pool typists and secretaries exist since the advent of the computer
To be continued…
