A $15 minimum wage - really!!!

It's February, 2019 - the State of Vermont is about to pass legislation to increase the minimum wage in this State to $15 by 2024!!!

What is the point of a $15 minimum wage in 2024.  It will in reality be NO increase at all to the people who depend upon it.

Of course the State Government is feeling good about increasing the minimum wage but in fact the increase should be immediate - then it would be a benefit, not a "kicked can down the road".

Trump Helsinki debacle!

It's some days since the Trump, Putin, Helsinki debacle.

What a disaster.  What a disaster for America and all it stands for, or stood for!

Certainly there are right wing Republicans who think that Trump is the "best thing since sliced bread", but there are many more people in America, Republicans, Democrats and Independents who are passionately against Trump, and all he stands for.

Surely, in November we can begin the change, if Congress does not impeach Trump before then.  All that is needed is, as Obama has said, to  "Vote".

In the meantime though, what is wrong with the Democratic Party?.  Probably never before has the opportunity been so great to dramatically effect change in the USA.  Why don’t the Democrats become visible, stand up shouting against the Trump appalling anti American trajectory, and do something. !!!!

Never has the opportunity for the Democrats to DO SOMETHING been better!!!

We need new leadership in the Democratic Party now.  We need a champion, a spokesperson who can get as much media attention as Trump (not an easy task),  but someone must try.

Unless the Democratic Party vitalizes, it may fail in November, and that would be the end of America as I know it and want it to be.

Global warming !!!

So - I'm sitting here in Vermont.  we're in day three of at least a 6 day unusual "Heat Wave" - it's in the 90's with extreme humidity.

At the same time we have forest and grassland  fires out west and we have had torrential rain, floods, and tornado's.

Soon enough we will have hurricanes, more floods and destruction.

Global temperatures are rising, the oceans are rising, the antarctic is loosing ice mass, the arctic more so, Alaska is loosing perma frost with attendant carbon dioxide and methane release.  All of which fuels "global warming".

Most of the rest of the world is trying to do something to counter this "global warming" but not America !!!

When will this stupid country see the obvious - global warming is real and will not go away in our, or many more lifetimes.

USA - Minimum Wage!!!

Much is being written and much credit is being given to States and Companies who are planning to raise their minimum wages to $15 per hour by 2024!!!

2024!!!   What use, or value will $15 per hour be in 2024?

The minimum wage needs to be at least $15 per hour NOW, not in 6 years time.

This increase, over this time period, will not help move people from poverty, and will maintain the status quo, unhappily for years to come.

Public School Shootings

The tragic shooting, killing 17 (and counting) in South Florida brings the number of such school shooting to 18 for the year so far - we are currently in week 8 !!!    2 1/4 shooting per week !!!

When are we going to do something about it?

• More gun control
• Ban automatic weapons
• More mental health scrutiny
• More policing of social media
• Stop making these perpetrators look glamorous
• It's quite in vogue and the thing to do to go off and shoot up a school.  You'' gain notoriety and fame, be on a lot of TV, and look good to your screwed up peer group on social media.

• Why is the Secretary of Defense looking over the Border between South and North Korea.  It's been pretty quiet over the last couple of weeks with no overt confrontation with Kim Jong Un
• Why are we escalating this confrontation again - there is bound to be a response
• Why is the re activation of the US B52 Nuclear Bomber Strike Force  not being reported in the Press

My Thoughts on Extra Celestial Life - Part Two

In Part 1 (April 2010) I offered my thoughts on extra terrestrial life, and if such an entity existed why we Humans didn’t know about it, and why, possible the extra terrestrials hadn’t made themselves know to us…

Now I want to discuss what intelligent aliens might encounter and think when they survey mankind on Planet Earth.

Hypothesis #1

Humans are Carnivores:

1.       Humans feed on other living things, grow and rear other life forms for their sustenance

2.       In its worst form mankind exists by killing other life forms, indeed practices the rearing, often in , dare I say it, inhuman circumstances, of other life forms merely to allow its own existence

3.       Humans are Monsters

4.       As an aside, It is quite within the bounds of conjecture and possibility  that we Humans are food or energy for someone else, some other life form

5.       The Earth is a big food lot and our time will come

Hypothesis #2

Humans are Colonists:

1.       Just as the Earth is becoming overpopulated, its resources are depleted and its environments being destroyed, so too will this have happened in other worlds.

2.       Just as Humans are taking first steps to visit other planets, potentially with a view to colonization, so to may other life forms be millions of years ahead of us, and the Earth may be their next port-of-call.

3.       We should not be surprised if the Earth is colonized by other cosmic visitors

4.       This may not be in OUR best interests

Hypothesis #3

Humans are an Virus

They will find humans as a cruel, vicious, uncaring life form that is multiplying at alarming rates and that our life form does not appear to have any plan, any intent or any evidence of progress.

Hypothesis #4

God is an extra terrestrial

They are not revealed because Humans are a low form of life

In order for Humans to elevate themselves into cosmic society they must evolve into a higher life form

1.       Humans must cease being evil and cruel

2.       Humans must cease all forms of violence against themselves, murder, cruelty, exploitation

3.       Humans must cease killing other life forms and develop some other forms of energy for their own needs

4.       Only when Humans have achieved this will they be allowed to enter the cosmic society

All the above being considered, it would be my belief that no visitor from the Universe would remotely want to reveal itself to us.  Indeed it might be argued that in the best interests of the Universe, that Humans need to either be redirected, or obliterated

I'm Speechless!!!
The US has become the laughing stock of the World.
How can any reasonably intelligent person NOT see and be experiencing the advent of Global Warming, and how the Billions of Humans and their waste are contributing to it.
God help our children and their children.

The cost to Taxpayers of "Trump"

So who has authorized and agreed to the millions of dollars extra being spent by Trump on all his visits to Mar a Largo in Florida - now calleed the Southern White House. AND all the flights by Air Force 1 taking him and his
team to and from, and all the Security that now has to secure all this extra real estate.

Meanwhile we supply Security for the White House, and Camp David, and we are also paying for Security for all his kids as they fly around the world on Trump business both official and yes for Trump personal business

All at Taxpayer expense

Well I haven't posted in quite a long time, but I can't be silent any more.
I'm talking about the "Trump" fiasco and every day I fume about one thing or another.  So now I'm going to add these fumes to my blog?

Bernie Sanders versus Hillary Clinton - the Delegate count!!!

So...

I'm following Bernie Sanders progress so far in the three Democratic Primaries/Caucuses and I have to say I don't understand the Delegate system...

In Iowa  Hillary and Bernie were virtually equal and Hillary got 29 Delegates and Bernie 21
In New Hampshire Bernie had essentially two thirds of the vote but they each got 15 Delegates?
In Nevada they were more or less equal  and Hillary got 22 delegates and Bernie 16

In total therefore over the three events Hillary has 66 Delegates and Bernie has 52

But, according to the Bloomberg " "Who's winning the Presidential Delegate Count" Hillary has - wait for it  - 505 Delegates versus Bernie's  70

Repeat  Hillary Clinton 505 Delegates and Bernie Sanders  70 - this after Super Delegates who can vote for whomever they want and have already committed to one candidate or the other

It does seem to me that THE PEOPLE are not being represented here and that Democracy is in question...  after all it is the Delegates to the Convention who finally decide who will be the nominee, and they are obviously not representing THE PEOPLE

What am I not understanding and missing?

The President and when he can nominate a candidate to the Supreme Court

Below is part of an email I sent to several of my friends yesterday...

"I’m shocked to hear of the death of Justice Antoine Scalia (and may he rest in peace), but I’m almost thinking that this event, and the obvious repercussions, are more important than the Presidential election!  in the long term!

Clearly Obama should be able to appoint someone of a different persuasion, but I doubt that the Congress will allow that – where is democracy then?"

I believe that The Constitution of the United States specifically gives the President of the United States the power and authority to nominate candidates to fill vacancies at the Supreme Court of the United States.

It is interesting to see how the Republican candidates vying to become the Republican nominee for the US coming General Elections for President of the United States, all of whom extol the  need and necessity of maintaining the "original" Constitution, suddenly believe it is OK to abandon it when President Obama plans to exercise his constitutional rights and nominate a successor to Justice Anotoine Scalia.

It appears that some of these Republicans might be hypocrites.....

The constitution which was created on September, 17th, 1787, which became ratified on June 21st, 1788, which came into force in 1789 was written to reflect the standards that were deemed necessary for this new country at that time.  This constitution has been amended since then 27 times, to reflect  developing and new thinking and the times that we are now living in.

The concept of amending the constitutions are therefore alive, proven and well.

The current Republican idea that the Constitution cannot be amended and must be the original, does not reflect history, and is being used as a means to their end...

We have not heard the end of this...

On Sony, North Vietnam, and Torture

I have to say this about the Sony, North Vietnam, and the Torture revelations!!!!

It may be that everyone has the right of freedom of speech, under the Constitution, but common sense should dictate a corporate standard!

How any CEO, Board or corporate structure can think that it is a good idea to make a comedy, funny movie about the execution of a real live person, especially the leader of any country is beyond me

Even thought they might have the right, under the Constitution to do this, it is just stupid, bad planning and bad taste destined to generate and evoke a bad response. Now, the President of the USA, the Security Services and not the least the people of Sony have all spent countless hours and costs  dealing with the problems caused by this stupidity, and the CEO, self-righteously is on TV defending his position

He should be fired!  and Sony should get a bill from the US government for all the costs it has incurred, paid for by US tax payers, because of this unnecessary foolishness.

Even though it might be a right, if we are civilized, there must be standards below which no person, corporation or entity must go

Another example is the recent “torture” revelations.  Whilst there may be some who think that this behavior gets positive results, the USA should NOT, under ANY circumstance  descend to this.   

The USA needs standards below which it will NOT fall.  Otherwise, it cannot be the leader or standard-bearer that it believes it is, and that the world expects it to be

Ferguson!!

I'm writing this before the announcement is made by the Grand Jury as to what its findings are on the Ferguson police shooting

I will add more later but do want to say that I think that the lead up to this event is a tragic, stupid indication of the state of society and especially the media:

• First - why has it taken so long for the Grand Jury to come to a decision
• Then, why has the announcement of their findings been delayed day after day after week with all the attendant media coverage
• Why has the media focused on this situation given it prime time coverage for days and weeks building the tension, and fomenting the situation
• It is almost inevitable that something will happen after the results no matter what they are
• Now at 6:00pm on announcement day, CNN (which is what I am watching) is almost in orgasm with excitement,  with anchors, interviewers, cameras and more all stirring the situation
• It's a show business event

That's all for now - I'm staggered by all this!! which makes a nonsence of the importance of this event, and the tragedy that begat it
