It's irrational - difference between Branded and Generic Drugs

I heard today that the Supreme Court had ruled that the manufacturers of
Branded Drugs which cause problems, could be sued, whereas manufacturers of
Generic Drugs could not?

I don't understand - it's irrational

Better off and well insured people will move even more to Branded Drugs, the
cost of Branded Drugs will increase to cover legal expenses and the US cost
of healthcare will continue to grow

On the other hand, freed of the possibility of legal action the cost of
Generic Drugs should reduce.

Apparently approximately 75 percent of all drugs consumed in the USA are
Generic
