A Letter to President Barack Obama

I mailed the letter below to President Obama today - I thought others might like to see it too:

Dear President Obama:
I thought you might like to hear this story!

I am British, and came to America in 1974 bringing a well known British company to America for the first time. I never intended to come and live in America – on my first visit I was merely trying to set up the business and find the people to run it, but I was so turned on by the positive and can-do attitude of all the Americans that I met, that I decided I wanted to stay in America and develop the business myself.

Over the years the business grew and in 1986 I became a Permanent Resident. I travelled the world now, representing this same company, and everywhere I want, the people I met were impressed about the fact that I lived in the USA. America was indeed well thought of around the world.

Years pass, I am still a Permanent Resident of the USA but now people are not impressed by the fact I live here, America’s reputation has darkened and I am sad.

But I have been uplifted by you and the simple good, honest and decent elements of your plan, as has most of the rest of the world. The “Idea of America”, that “Shining City on a Hill” might actually still exist!

You need to know that on January 20th, your Inauguration Day, I got up early, travelled the 60 mile round trip to find a photographer, got my Passport photographs taken, returned home to see you take the Oath, then downloaded the Application for Naturalization Forms from the web, filled them in and mailed them by late afternoon.

I hope that I am now in line to become an American!

These 35 years in America have been good for me and my family. Now with hope that you can achieve your goals I need to be a part of it, and in any event I need to be able to vote for you in 2012

Good luck and with all our best wishes to you and your family
Sincerely

Peter D. Revers
